I want to get a tattoo
….but I’m a little scared! My DH has 5 tattoos. He says that while it does hurt a bit, the pain is not an excruciating pain but more of an annoying pain after a while.
I would love to get a small tattoo of 5 little butterflies - each one representing one of my children.
Do you have any tattoos? Did it hurt when you got it/them done?

I like the idea of the butterflies representing the kids
I have one tattoo, it’s a shooting star with Owen’s name underneath it. It is on the back of my neck, and yep I thought it hurt! But apparently that is one of the places that it hurts the most.
The only way I can describe it is that it feels like you are sunburnt and someone is scratching at it!
I have 4, and plan to get more someday. It does hurt, kind of like a bee sting. After a while though you’re natural endorphins kick in and it’s not so bad.
I have two tattoos, and yes, they did hurt a little when I was having them done, but the pain goes away quickly! I have one over my heart that has mine and my husbands name on it and another on my ankle/lower shin that it a tribal sun with a peace sign. I want at least one more, but haven’t decided on the design yet. Don’t let the fear of the pain stop you, you’ve given birth, the pain is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY less painful than that
I have one tattoo, just below my neck on my back. It hurt a bit, but it really wasn;t that bad. I want to get a bunch more…and a few will be in known “painful” places like the wrist and ankle.
I’ve got two tattoos, one on my left back hip, and one on my spine, just above my underwear line. Yep, they hurt. I agree that it’s kind of an annoying pain, like a cat scratching a tender spot over and over, but the endorphins kick in after a little bit. You get a little high
I have one on my ankle. I’d love to get another but because of my health I can’t
Do it. The pain isn’t bad and you’ll be so happy that you did! I love the butterfly idea too.
I’ve never had a tattoo but I heard whether it hurts or not depends on where the tattoo is. I want to get one on my lower back though (which someone said will hurt like a mofo) but I haven’t decided on a design.
I have never had one, but I want to get one also. My friend had one done and she hates pain. She said it really was not too bad.
As another commenter said I’ve heard it just depends on where you get it done.
I have two that I got back in my early 20’s. I really wish I would have waited and gave ti more thought like you are doing. Thankfuly they are both in spots no one has to see unless I show them.
I have TWO but one takes up 3/4 of my back, so it should count for more than ONE.
When they give you a tattoo, they are essentially scraping your skin with a needle, so YES it does hurt …
I’m one of those weirdos who actually finds that type of pain to be a stress reliever though, so I actually looked forward to it.
I think it’s all about tolerance. Generally speaking, women have a higher tolerance for pain than men, so if you’re like most of the women I know, you’ll be just fine, particularly if your tatt is small.
However, I do know some very wussy women and I’ve seen a women cry throughout the tattooing process. It was … um … really uncomfortable … for everyone. So don’t do that … kay?
I say go for it. The body is a canvas, but one word of advice — get it where you can cover it up with a regular t-shirt — unless you are ABSOLUTELY certain of your future plans.
While tattoos are highly mainstream now, there are still some situations where you will not be accepted for having them. If you’re okay with that … good for you — more power to you.
Good luck and watch out because it is addictive. I only know ONE person who got ONE tattoo. The rest either have none or have at least two and are planning their next.

I love tattoos
I only have one, love it dearly after 6-7 years. As to whether it hurt - well yeah it did, but that’s because it was done in the traditional Samoan style, with something like a notched chisel banged into the skin! Still nowhere near childbirth as far as pain went, and I had 2 gorgeous samoan guys holding my arm still and smiling at me!
ooo I want a tattoo .. unfortunately DH is not quite so enthusiastic .. but I have made myself a promise .. lose those kg’s and get my tattoo
I have one, its two hearts on the outside of my ankle, It did hurt a little but The guy who did it told me if it does start to hurt then let him know and he will stop, He was really good about that.
I love the idea of butterflies for the kiddos.
I have one on the inside of my wrist which is a very sensitive spot, after a while it got really, REALLY annoying but it didn’t hurt per say. I can recommend though as I have seen it many times before to bring a soda and a candy bar just in case your sugar drops while having your tat done. Maybe even a book. I know the next one I get will takes hours so I’m bringing some reading material and maybe a pillow as I will have to be laying down for most of it.
