Waiting at the doctor’s surgery

Filed Under health/wellbeing, on my soapbox |

I can’t believe how behind my doctor is! My appointment was at 4.15pm. I always get there 10 minutes early just in case the person before me doesn’t turn up and I can get in earlier. I was waiting and waiting yesterday afternoon. I read all about Tom and Nicole’s divorce (yep, that’s how old the magazines are down there) and decided that I want to walk the Great Wall of China, thanks to the National Geographic mag that was falling apart. I was waiting that long that I even read the mortgage life insurance leaflets that were sitting on the table.

I didn’t get in to see my doctor until 5pm! What annoyed me the most was that when I finally got in to see the doctor, I was only in there for 2 minutes! I just needed to get my script for my ‘happy pill’ and contraceptive pill. Pity I can’t just ring him and get him to prepare the scripts for me to just pick up without seeing him - that would save heaps of time!

I feel your frustration, after years and years of not having a Dr due to major Dr shortages in our city, we finally found one willing to take our family. We’ve been there twice so far and both times we didn’t even get put into a room until over an hour after our actual appointment, then another 15 to 20 minutes wait once in the room.

Our dr seems really great, and I’m happy to know she’s not rushing her patients like some Dr’s do, but it’s just frustrating to have to sit in the waiting room with the kids for over an hour.

I always try to call my dr - I have to leave a message with his medical assistant.. and ask for refills.. once he gets tired of doing via the phone, he’ll have her call in a month supply and tell me to come see him.. it cuts down on appts.. maybe try it w your doc.. I absolutely *hate* waiting.. thankfully my dr is typically on time. Now, by GI specialist is not and I always dread going to see him… an hour wait and a 5 min conversation. ugh
